The Strange Case of the Doughnuts In the Night-time

The Strange Case of the Doughnuts In the Night-time
1st of April, we have had friends staying for a long week-end. The weather has been fabulous with lots of walks for "Lofty" our big Irish lad and his 2 visiting Jack Russell friends ,Mercedes and Poppy, (plus their owners) but as this is their last evening we invite neighbours for cheese/wine and a good natter. This includes "Sally" and her owner. 6 people tuck into Game Pie, Cheeses and fresh baked bread and all decide to have the "sweet" course later. All 4 dogs are in full relax mode and Gill is telling us a lovely story so no one notices that Sally has moved!! At about 9.30 I ask if people would now like dessert, Cheesecake, fresh fruit salad and cream or jam doughnuts, all agree it is a good idea. I went to the side-table in the dining room, there is the fruit salad and the jug of cream an empty plate and the remains of the cheese-cake. "Where are the Doughnuts" I ask my husband, "In the dining room" he replies. The plate is clean, so is the doily and a few stray crumbs and jam marks on the carpet give the game away. I also notice that a long tongue has managed to extract most of the cheese-cake filling from between the biscuit base & the fruit topping. Sally has a contented look on her face and a very big belly, but then, 8 doughnuts (with jam) plus home-made cheese-cake filling do take up a lot of space in the stomach of a small greyhound!!!

The "counter-top thief" strikes again.

Thanks to David Hart (Owner of Lofty)
